A sore throat is very common. Your throat may feel scratchy and hot, and it might be painful to talk or swallow. It is usually caused by a viral infection and can resolve on its own with supportive care and rest. Sometimes, however, a sore throat may be caused by streptococcus bacteria and requires treatment with antibiotics.
