What are Minor Injuries (Sprains & Soft Tissue Injuries)

Sprains and soft tissue injuries happen when muscles, tendons, or ligaments are stretched or torn. These injuries often cause pain, swelling, and reduced movement, and are commonly caused by falls, sports, or accidents.
Prompt assessment and care can help reduce discomfort, support healing, and prevent further damage. Most soft tissue injuries will improve with time, movement, and appropriate care.

Treating Sprains & Soft Tissue Injuries

We’ll recommend initial care to help manage pain, support recovery, and guide next steps for a new sprain or soft tissue injury.

Through our CareNow Minor Injuries service, you can book an initial appointment with either a WeCare Nurse or a Motus Health Physiotherapist. This first appointment focuses on assessing your injury, recommending appropriate follow-up care, and arranging pain relief or ACC medical certificates through a WeCare clinician if needed.

Common minor injury treatments include:

• Initial assessment and care for new sprains or soft tissue injuries
• Pain relief medication
• Referral for ongoing care, including physiotherapy
• ACC18 medical certificates (additional fee may apply)
• ACC18 medical certificates if needed (additional fee may apply)

Please note: Some injuries aren’t suitable for CareNow treatment. If you have a serious injury, suspected fracture or dislocation, major trauma, or injury to the head, neck, or spine, please seek urgent care or attend an urgent care centre or Emergency Department.
