What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control and executive functioning.

In adults, it often shows up as:
  • Ongoing difficulty focusing
  • Struggling to stay organised
  • Starting tasks but not finishing them
  • Feeling mentally restless or easily overwhelmed
  • Acting or speaking without thinking things through
  • Frequent forgetfulness or misplaced items

Many adults were never diagnosed as children. Over time, these patterns can affect work, study, relationships and day-to-day life.

In New Zealand, adults 18 and over can now be assessed and diagnosed for ADHD within general practice by appropriately trained clinicians. Some people may still need specialist input, depending on their individual situation.

How the ADHD assessment works:

Step 1

Complete the online screening

Fill out a structured screening form about your symptoms and history. This helps us determine whether ADHD assessment is appropriate.

Step 2

Attend your in-person assessment

If screening suggests ADHD may be likely, you'll have a 1-hour consultation to explore your experiences in detail.

Step 3

Set up your treatment plan

If ADHD is confirmed, you'll have a dedicated appointment to establish your treatment plan.
