NEST in Action: Welcoming Our First Graduate Nurses
WeCare’s NEST Nurse Entry and Supported Transition Programme has moved from planning into practice, with our first intake of graduate nurses now settling into primary care and beginning their supported transition into clinical roles.
This milestone marks an important step for NEST - shifting from programme design to real-world learning, and team-based care.
A structured start, with strong leadership support
The group began their journey with a structured induction, including a welcome from Managing Director Dr Brian Ko, who shared the WeCare story, our mission and values, key achievements, and the direction of the organisation.
From there, the nurses have been working closely with Stacey Gilbert, Programme Director, gaining a broad understanding of WeCare’s services and what makes our model of care different - particularly our emphasis on collaboration, accessibility, and supporting clinicians to grow confidently in primary care.
Learning alongside experienced clinicians
A core feature of the NEST programme is close, ongoing support from experienced clinicians. The graduate nurses are supported by dedicated preceptors from WeCare’s senior nursing and nurse prescriber team as they begin applying learning in practice.
Ongoing education is a core part of the NEST programme, alongside supervised clinical practice. Through regular learning sessions and day-to-day support from their preceptors, graduate nurses are supported to build confidence, develop clinical judgement, and consolidate their skills in a primary care setting.
Growing capability, together
The NEST programme is designed to recognise that transitioning into primary care is a process - one that benefits from time, guidance, and a supportive environment. By combining structured education, hands-on experience, and mentorship, NEST supports graduate nurses to develop their skills while feeling supported as part of a wider team.
We’re proud to be supporting our first ever intake of NEST nurses Maddy Connell, Sophie Parker, and Siena Satherley as they begin their careers in primary care, and to acknowledge the leadership, educators, and clinicians involved in supporting them through this programme.
Supporting graduate nurses into primary care is an investment in our people, our teams, and the future of accessible healthcare. We look forward to seeing these nurses continue to grow in confidence and capability as part of WeCare.
